5If your preschooler loves your BlackBerry...buy this! by A. Connor

I have long been a fan of LeapFrog Products and both of my children have benefited greatly from their innovative and highly educational products.

I bought this item yesterday and my 4-year-old loves it. We spent some time working on a few of the games and going through all of the letters and it does not disappoint. She was laughing out loud at some of the rhyming words for the letters and she feels like she has a BlackBerry like me, which is hilarious.

It also has the real QWERTY keyboard which is great since they will need to become familiar with it for real life.

I've given this company a lot of my hard earned cash over the last nine years but it has been worth it and all of the products can be passed down to other children.

This is one for the holiday gift list.

5I love this toy by Jeff S

I bought this for my 20 month old daughter and she absolutely loves it. My daughter loves daddys laptop, cell phone, and game systems. I bought her this and it keeps her entertained long enough for me to get things done. Its, by far, her favorite toy and she doesnt let anyone play with it. I was really happy when I saw her playing by herself one day with the toy. She kept pushing the same button over and over and she would try to repeat what it was saying. This almost reminds me of those old Speak N Spells from way back in the day. Its quite durable and has proven that it can take a beating. Highly recommended.

5Lots of learning and role play fun... by Daddy B Me

My 3 year old loves the games and the character Scout. She doesn't even realize she is learning as she plays and helps Scout out with his missions. The toy is very durable and the screen is nice and large. SHe is learning the alphabet and thinks it is a phone like mine (blackberry phone). Cute..;)

5Great Toy! by Marie Ross

I purchased this toy for my then 3year-old son (after a moderate amount of comparison and deliberation with similar toys) with the simple goal to help him learn the sounds of the letters better. We've been disappointed with toys that pretend to be adult "toys" but that just don't seem to fool him or make him want to play with them for more then a day or two. So I was skeptical and had low expectations of how well it would entertain him. And to be honest, he barely touched it for the first month he owned it (it was a Christmas present though so he was busy playing with new trains, vehicles, building blocks, and such). Then one day, (because of it's size: it fit in my purse) it went on a doctor's visit with us. And that was it.

I took the time to show him what buttons did what and how to bring up different functions (he remembered a couple) and he has loved the toy ever since. He likes to keep it in the car now and he plays with it almost every day when we're all driving home from work/daycare (which can be a pretty cranky time for him so yay!). He'll also play with it in the morning when he wakes up on the weekends if we put it by the bed after he falls asleep and give us a little extra time before we have to get up.

Educationally, I like this toy as much as he likes it for being fun. He is delayed with his language so I like that it helps him with his letter sounds while playing. We sometimes expand on it and make up our own silly combinations... well, we do but he laughs at them and repeats them, which is the important part. As he gets older, he'll be able to contribute too and we'll be able to really make a game of it. I like that as he gets older and understands more, there will be new functions he'll be able to use on this toy (like the game mode) so it will continue to help him learn and be fun for him for a long time. As a parent, I love toys that have a long play life!

So far this toy has been pretty durable. It has been dropped on concrete and had a 35 lb child stand on it several times without any damage. In general I have been happy with the quality of Leapfrog products and this one is no exception. It is a great toy, both for children and parents.

5Like it! by Jennifer S. Mcmaster

I have 3 year old twins and this is a great little toy to remind them about all of the letters of the alphabet. It is very easy to use and understand. They keep them in their beds and take them in the car. It is also durable - they drop them all the time and the computers still keep working :)
The price is right - very inexpensive way to learn the alphabet.

5I like this! by Kate "mom of 4 in nj

I like that this has a QWERTY keyboard and is small. Most items that I have found that teach the proper keyboard are larger play computers. This is small enough that it can go in Mom or Dad's bag for when you need a distraction and you just can't bring bigger toys.

This is not as fancy as a Leapster, but the benefit is that there are no cartridges to lose or damage. It is all self-contained. It is for children who do better with fewer selections so that they can master the content/ how to use the electronic device. If your child has been inundated with electronic stimulus since birth and are already playing "World of Warcraft" on their Nintendo, they are obviously not going to have a high tolerance for the understated graphics. :-)

5Love It!!! by PJ M "Pam"

I bought this toy for my 21 month old grandson. Debated buying it after reading some negative reviews but since he loves Mommy and Daddy's blackberries figured how far wrong could I go? Well, this toy has been a big hit and is one of his favorite toys. It has a keyboard that is the same as Mom and Dad's. My concern was the poor display screen written about in other reviews but this doesn't seem to be a problem for him. He is young but is able to push letters and says the name of the letter and is so happy when he gets it right. As he gets older he will learn to do the other activities the toy offers. It has been a tremendous help in his learning to recognize the site and names of the letters. He loves the doggie -- we are now teaching him that the doggie's name is Scout. The toy holds his attention for longer than most toys and he keeps going back to it. This is the first Leap Frog toy that I have purchased but will now be a loyal customer of the company. It is a toy that is wonderful for the two year old (or slightly younger) and a toy that will grow with them.

5Not bad by Liz

We got this for our daughter's third birthday and I'd say it is ok. She enjoyed it a lot at first, but seems to have gotten somewhat bored by it. The games are fun and the graphics and sounds are cute (and I like that it has a volume control), but the screen can be very dark and hard to see in some light. Overall, it's not bad, but could be better.

5Just okay - Leapster is a better investment... by B. Bechtold

I got this for my 3 year old but honestly, it doesn't capture her attention for very long. There are only 2 games and they are so very basic. Her sister got a Leapster 2 for Christmas and she got this but I'm now wishing I would have gotten her a Leapster too as she plays her sisters ALL the time! On the few times she does pick this up, it's only for a few minutes and then she goes to her sisters Leapster. I love Leap Frog and am a big fan of their toys as we have a lot of them. This is probably my least favorite :( It's a cute idea but just not all that. I would recommend this for maybe a 2 year old instead.

5A million percent recommend!!! by M. Kaiser

Im going to thank this toy for teaching my son his ABC's and in a week! He is very hyper activity and hates group activities or activities where hes expected to sit and focus or participate. So its been a struggle teaching him much. I got him this game on a whim and it was a huge hit. He loved the games, when he thought Scout was texting him, all the cute little animated graphics. I really didnt think he would like it because its not big and it doesnt have colorful animations, but he has to have this toy with him for about 90% of the day and its the only toy I dont mind him carrying everywhere with him. He can actually point out every letter of the alphabet now and not just in the game, in everyday situations. If we go out to eat he loves to read the letters on the menu now! Im definitely looking into the other leapfrog toys as well now.

5Very Durable. Great for New Learners by L. owens "L.S.Owens"

We homeschool and I bought this to use with three of my younger children. The youngest two of the group call it a phone, looks like my old blackberry but bigger! I like the keys, not too small, it isn't too small. Works well and can take a beating. I know this first hand, it has met up with hardwood and tile and so far it is working good.

5nice toy but.... by nf

LeapFrog Text and Learn is a fun toy but the screen is very difficult to read unless you are in the right light. I kept looking for a way to turn the light on and was disappointed to find there wasn't one. Overall rating 3 stars because of the reading issue.

5Great learning toy and simple introduction to computer games by A. Rathsack

My daughter received this for her 3rd birthday and has enjoyed learning how to play the game, listen to the songs, and read the alphabet.

A couple of the main features that I like is the reinforcement of letters on the screen. As the child touches a letter it will say the letter a couple of times, make the sound, and say a word. The letter also shows up on the screen so they are seeing the letter as well as hearing the name.

I like the shape game as well, it teaches up, down, left, right or you can go by the colors. I like the idea that it is teaching the functionality of a computer game and how she can move the character up and down, left or right. I wasn't necessarily expecting this, but happy it's there. There are actually two games, for one of them it's helpful if your child already knows the alphabet. The other is shapes, so again, it's helpful if they already know these. You can look at it as a more advanced feature of the toy.

5Kids Love It! I would make a few changes by M. Foster "mckennamo

My girls adore this device! They love the games it had. Each letter makes a sound and has an animation. They think that's pretty neat! In fact that will keep them busy for a long period of time. Great for long car rides or drs visits. I think the letter sounds is a great overall feature, but it could use tweaking. Several of the sounds, sound alike causing confusion. I have had to correct my 3yr old a few times because the device really sounds like one letter when it should sound like another. Limitations, I know.

The device has great durability I will say! Between my 2 and 3 year old using it, it has withstood several mishaps and is still in great shape! I do wish there was a back light on the device, but for the most part that hasn't been a huge issue. I think it occurred to me once. Overall,I feel like my girls have learned from the device I just have to keep my ears open for some corrections.

5Great Learning Toy! by Sandie Bridges

I got this for my son last year for Christmas and he still plays with it. It's a great learning toy but the only thing I wish they would improve on is to put a light in it. He plays with it in the car but sometimes if it's dark out he can't see the screen. Hopefully they will make this adjustment in the future b/c I think it would be beneficial for people that are traveling.

5Great Idea, not durable by Kathy

I love this product. So much so, I have bought this item FOUR TIMES. My two year old LOVES IT. However, every time she accidently drops it, it stops working :( (never had this problem with Leap Frog items before). We have been though 3 of them now, and are on our forth text and learn! They have either had the sound drop so quiet that we can't hear it (not a setting/battery thing), or changed so that the buttons didn't work correctly (pushing a letter, and it thinks it is a different letter, or puppy button).

I love the item, but wish it was more durable, considering what age it is good starting at. Maybe put shock absorbers on the top corners?

5My son LOVES it! by D. S. Carpenter

And the best part is that it keeps him away from playing with my phone! We keep it in the car to keep him happy when we go out. He can't get enough of it. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone wanting to reinforce letters and sounds to their toddler or preschooler.

5Fun toy by Joanne Gold

My son received this as a gift for Christmas. Now, 2 moths later he's not even 2 yo and could easily recognize all the letters. He loves this toy and did not get bored of it.

5Educational, durable, and fun by C. R. Metzgar

My 2 year old niece isn't able to fully understand everything this toy can do, but she is learning her ABCs and having fun along the way. This is a tough toy that has been dropped and beat up a bit (not on purpose, but toddlers can be rough on things) and it still keeps going.

5Toddler learnt his ABCs by himself! by Sarah

I purchased this toy to keep my then 16month old son occupied on the long flight home. While he found it interesting, his attention span was not long enough to really benefit from using the toy. 3 months later he re-discovered the toy and it easily kept him amused on long car rides or during play time in the day. After a few weeks we realized that he had begun learning his ABCs from using the toy! He would repeatedly press one of the letters on the keypad, watch the animation, and repeat the name of the letter. Then he started to identify the same letters everywhere he went! While driving he would look out the window and say the letters he would see on store signs and other cars. In shops and restaurants he would identify them on posters and products. We did not think to start teaching ABCs so young but he did it on his own and now loves to discover the alphabet in the world around him.

5No sound after three months of light use. What a waste. by toddlermom

Purchased in November and the sound went out in January. Tried new batteries, but no luck. What a bummer. Typically like Leap Frog products, but this was a bust!!

5AWESOME FOR AUTISM & Neurotypical Siblings by Margaret

Parents know that finding learning toys ideal for autism AND neurotypical siblings is a challenge. I have a 4-yr-old (autistic) and a 2 yr-old (neurotypical) and THEY BOTH LOVE THIS LEARNING TOY!!!! You could buy 2 if you don't want arguments but I bought one so they BOTH learn how to share and take turns. Wonderful job to the LeapFrog game creators, and thanks.

5Leap frog toy by Amy

This is the best toy. My daughter will love it She will get this on her birthday! I hope she can use this for many years to come and share this with other family members thanks Amazon for having this item!

5I recommend for small children by re7re19

5Great educational tool for a wee one! by Norma J. Chaikin

My granddaughter received this for her birthday and she slept with it the first night! She loves it and plays with it constantly! Arrived on time and in great shape!

5My son loves it. We do too. That's our 5 minutes break by tony

Like I said "My son loves it" and we have to have it around everywhere. This is the third one that we buy, I wish they could make it a little more child prof, we can't get it more then 3-4 months to work, after a lot of smashes on the floor from my 3 years old. That's his favorite toy and and ours too, we can always get few minutes of peace and quiet with it, so we have to always have a working one handy.
The QWERTY keypad I think is the educational plus on the toy.

5Works For Us by A. Cunningham

We bought this for our then 18 month old back in October. It's now July and the toy still hold his interest and more importantly, he's grown into it It's been fun watching him learn how to actually use the toy (like the arrow buttons to guide Scout through the maze game) instead of only pressing the buttons for music (which he still does too)! I bought the Orange VTech version months after this one and that one no longer works. This one has definitely held up better.

5Great Educational Toy by R. Ramsey

My daughter got this 2 months ago for her 4th birthday. She loves it. It has the qwerty keyboard so she really likes playing with it if I am on my blackberry.
I love how the letter sounds say the different sounds each letter makes. She really loves the help scout home game and is getting better everyday with the bubble letter game.

5LeapFrog Text and Learn by Ignacio

El producto es bueno, las funcionalidades son bastante completas y divertidas. Le agregaría back-light ya que a veces resulta difícil ver en la pantalla.

52 year old son loves it! by DJB

I got this for my 2 year old for christmas. He plays with it alot. The batteries last a long time which is good.
He simply loves it. One night at dinner, I asked him to show me where "P" is. He instantly pointed to it. Me and my wife then asked him other letters and he knew exactly where they were without much hesitation. My little dude knows EVERY letter on the keyboard!! I could not believe it.
Great toy! I think we bought it at the big red T for around 15 dollars.

5If your kid loves your smartphone...get this toy! by Heather L. Koranteng

Keeps my 2 1/2 year old from going after my BB because she feels like she has her own. She calls it her phone, and loves it. She pushes the letter buttons and repeats the sounds. Some of the other games are little advanced for her yet, but she'll grow into them and I think this toy will have a long shelf life! Totaly worth the money.

5love it! by Sarah Chapman

my son got this toy for his 2nd birthday and a year later he still loves it. now we use it mostly for car rides and doctor visits because it will keep him well entertained!

5My son enjoys this and it is a great educational tool!!! by Angie

I was looking for something to help my 3yr. old son with his ABC's . This was a great buy! We can take it anywhere (though a little loud for a restaurant or waiting room) and it was def. reasonably priced. It has helped him to recognize his letters and to find them on the keyboard. I wish it had more games for him to play, because he has become a little bored with it. But, overall I recommend this as a starter "hand-held video game"... I'm currently researching for another educational game for him like the Leapster explorer.

5Letter Fun! by DeannDmere

Brought this toy for my son for x-mas last year as well and it's a nice educational little toy. It's good for teaching him his letters and great for riding trips with him in the back seat. He didn't have an interest in the toy at first, but once he saw me playing with it, he gave it a try and hasn't put it down since!

5Leap Frog Text and Learn by C. charled

My two and 1/2 year old son loves this toy. He calls it his Ipad phone. He thinks he is just like daddy when playing with his toy. It is so durable. I am not worried when he drops it. Another great toy from Leap frog.

5Helped my son to learn phonics at age 3 by Happy Shopper

I have to admit when you first look at this product, you won't find it fun and or super attractive. My son got it when he first turned 2.5 and didn't really touch it for 3-4 months. However one day, I give it to him in a long car ride (5 hrs) along with some other toys and a DVD player. In the end of the drive, he learned his phonics and would say things like "Y for yummy yogurt" or " O for Octopus in the Ocean"out of the blue. After that, we bought 2 as gifts. My son is now 3.5, he'd still take it out from time to time and help Scout find his home.

53 Year Old niece loves it by justsomeguy

My niece couldn't get enough of this thing in the store, so - Christmas gift it was! She loves it - she loves listening to the dog or whatever tell her what to do. I like it because the sounds and talking aren't annoying, plus she's learning where letters are on a qwerty keyboard. Cheap too, for what you get. You don't need cartridges or need to plug it in. It's a sturdy thing - just grab and go.

5Favorite toy by hoolahbunnies

My two year-old LOVES this device! It helps mommy has a white blackberry that looks a lot like it. =) I was a little disappointed that it was not smaller (she tends to be smart enough to figure out toys are toys so not as much fun as the real deal) and that it wasn't actually something I could hook up to the computer and personalize for her like her Violet puppy dog. She still loves it though and takes it with her everywhere- trying to talk to her grandpa on it. :)

5Perfect for learning letters! by Michelle Ogden

This is a great learning toy. It does both long and short sounds for the vowels, and has very accurate sounds for all the letters. It is a great size too, not too big or too small. I bought it for my 4 year old, but even my two year old loves to play with it and look at the pictures!

5MY GRANDSON LOVES TO TEXT, JUST LIKE DADDY. by Not A Lot Of Money &

Bought this for my 3 year old grandson and he immediately took a liking to it. He was so proud when he texted the character displayed on the screen. I bought this more because I though it would be a fun toy and the fact that it's made by Leapfrog and is also educational is an added bonus. I like that it also teaches the letters of the alphabet as you press them and sounds them out and gives a word example of that letter. It's a good way to learn and have fun at the same time. I think kids learn at their best when they don't even know that they're learning something but think it's just fun. There's a large variety of things this toy does, as stated in the description. I think it's a great toy for the price.
