My daughter's favorite toy! by iBoughtAHat "Leah"
This is long, but you will know everything that you need to know:
PURPOSE OF PURCHASE:
My daughter had just turned 11 months old. I was looking for a fill-and-spill toy that she would not outgrow as quickly as many other baby toys and I was hoping for something that she would use for creative play for the next couple of years. We were skeptical at first because we felt that, although the price is reasonable, we still did not want to throw away $20 and she might not care for it or it may be a little mature for her.
I am so glad that we bought it. It was the last of the gifts that we bought for her first Christmas, and I just know it was meant for her to have.
DESCRIPTION:
Everything is made of hard plastic, except for the checked "blanket" which is like a handkerchief. The basket is packed pretty full with everything inside, but she can easily fit it all back in without help. She loves carrying all of the pieces around in her little hands. (There are many pieces and you don't want them lost!) The full basket is a little heavy for a baby. She did not carry the entire basket around until recently (14 months) and still prefers not to, but she has always taken it off of her toyshelf and sat with it closeby in the floor. I can watch this thing growing with her. She likes to put the food pieces and forks in her mouth. And she LOVES the sounds it makes when the lid opens and closes. She loves the songs that it sings, and let me tell you, the voice is too cute and sweet. She dances while she plays and tries to sing.
POSITIVE:
I love it because it is easy to wipe clean (even though I haven't had to clean it yet), it is durable, it is fun, adorable, AND VERY educational!!
I had not realized before she started playing with it, but it teaches manners (saying please & thank you) and some prepositions, such as: put one cup IN the other cup, spread the blanket ON the ground UNDER the tree...a picnic WITH my friend. It sings the colors of the rainbow. It counts up to four often. It sings short songs about how many sides each shape has, and each of the three foods on each plate is a different shape (triangle pie slice, square cracker, circle orange slice). It asks you to find each shape. The plates are similar to wooden puzzles (only plastic), and she is learning to put the foods in place.
She also LOVES music, and this thing is constantly singing. It even reminds you to push the butterfly button to hear a song. She can play with this toy 100% by herself, and I know that she will not outgrow it any time soon because it is also my favorite of her toys. And when her cousins (4yrs & 11yrs) came to visit, this is the toy that they played with for 2 hours straight! She plays with it more than any other toy (and she has too many toys). We have never had to replace the batteries since she first got it.
NEGATIVE:
The cups are not intended to hold liquids. They each have two holes in the bottom that you could almost stick a pencil through. I like that she will have to use her imagination and also I will not have to worry about the inside of the picnic basket getting sticky with juice and I am glad that ants will not be stored in there. (But some people would rather have usable cups, and if your child tried to use them, it would be messy, so I thought I would mention this.)
The only real negative that I can find is that the talking basket may ask you to find the triangle, but it has no way to know whether you found it, so it does not correct you or praise you. It never responds or gives hints or anything. So basically, it just randomly asks your child to find things, but she may never know if her answer was correct (or wrong!). Therefore, I recommend that Mommy plays with her.
BOTTOM LINE:
I say it is well worth every cent (and more)!
my daughter loves this by Heather J. Ethen "he
this is a great toy! very durable, bold colors. everything fits into the basket so it's easy to store and not lose pieces. My 18 month old daughter loves playing pretend and this is a great toy for her. Plus, all the food is a shape that fits in it's on spot on the plates, like a puzzle. It helps her with shapes, colors and I can get her to clean up when she's done. And she loves carrying this around the house.
Great Toy! by cml789
I bought this for my 2yr old along with the Potsy and she LOVES it! She'll place the blanket first on the floor and the two plates with food on top. She loves to pretend we're having a picnic and carries the basket everywhere. I love Leapfrog products!
fun toy, but circle shapes fit completely in 19 month olds mouth by Leeldoo
My 19 month old loves this set-- foods, plates, cups and music. I am reluctant to let her play with it because she can fit the entire circle shapes (cookie and orange) completely into her mouth.
My children are learning through play! by proudmomma3
We bought this for our youngest daughter, and expected that our two older children would lose intrest with it after a few days...wrong! I enjoy watching all three of them play picnic together. It is a great way to practice sharing and manners, and they don't even realize it!! The music is adorable and there are several pieces to play with!
I recommend this!
Must Have Toy Ages 9 Months-4 Years by Mommaoftwo
I have never written a review before, but had to for this toy. My 2 1/2 year old daughter and 11 month old son play with this toy constantly and fight over it so much so I am thinking about buying another one. We have more toys than anyone I know. I know the good, bad and easily broken ones on the market. This toy has everything you'd want for your kids.
1. Sounds effects
2. Container to store pieces in
3. Shape-sorter
4. Different healthy food items for your toddler to learn to distinguish
5. Promotes sharing (though my kids are still working on this aspect :)
6. Container has a handle for toddler to tote around (which all toddlers love to do)
I highly recommend this!
I saw this on the shelf and fell in love! My daughter is just 6 months old but she already enjoys opening and closing the lids and munching on the "food". The only thing that I would change is if the lid had actual shape cut outs to fit the food instead of just the picture of the shapes...i think it'd make it more versatile. Otherwise, it's super cute!
Great Learning Toy by Amanda L. Davis
This toy is cute and very educational. I love that it encourages pretend play, shape sorting, and even manners. The food shapes fit into spaces on the plates like a puzzle. This is a toy my girls will play with for a while. It won't be quickly outgrown like so many other toys.
I did not buy this but my Granddaughter loves this toy. I took care of her for a week and this was one of her favorite toys. She is 15 months old and knows how to but the little blanket out and then pick out the foods when you ask her.It did take me two days to realize that it was watermelon not a strawberry. That is why she couldn't find the strawberry!!! She will take it to her Pap's lap and but the blanket first and then have a picnic with him. This is one of the best toys of the year.
The best toy we've purchased to date!!! by Minh Nguyen "SanDieg
My wife picked this up for our 6 month old daughter. It came with everything she would need for a "picnic"... plates, cups, forks, food, and even a cloth blanket. It has two audio settings, one for music and one to teach (shapes and colors). There are also two settings for volume. The butterfly button used for interaction is large enough for her to find. The two lids on the basket have lips for easy open and close. The food is textured, color correct, and small enough for small hands but large enough not to go into mouths. After playtime, everything fits nicely back in the basket. Needless to say, a great toy for the little one.
My daughter loved it!!! by arturo and lacey
My daughter got this as a gift for her third birthday and she loves it. It is so cute, my daughter loves having picnics she uses it all the time. Her four year old cousin has one as well as she also loves it. It does have sound and it is not as loud as some of her other toys thankfully. Would recommend it too anyone.
Amazing Aunt Scores Again by Amazing Aunt
on the advice of friends, I bought this for my two year old niece, and she LOVED it!! I received a note from her mom that she has spend the week 'picnicking' all over the house and insisted on carrying the basket all over the house. I don't know about the educational value, but the fun quotient seems to be worth the money. I'm so glad I got it!
My 2 yr old twins love this! by TiffLee "tifflee"
I highly recommend this toy and the Potsy LeapFrog toy. My 2 yr old boy/girl twins LOVE both of these toys. They got Potsy last year for Christmas and play with it all the time - one of their Top 5 toys to play with. We just got the Picnic Basket and I can already tell it is going to be just as loved. In fact I might buy another one so they each have one. :)
My daughter received this as a 2nd birthday gift. It was a hit after it was opened and all of the kids were anxious to play with it (including her 3 year old boy cousins). Cute, versatile toy.
Still using it a year later! by Seacoast resident
Our daughter received this picnic basket last Christmas at 7 months old. She is now almost 18 months and still uses it on almost a daily basis. She has learned the shapes, the items (orange, watermelon, plate, fork, sandwich, cup, etc.), it teaches counting, manners, etc. And there is still more for her to learn. Also very importantly, the sound effects are not annoying for parents. In fact, they're very cute--my husband and I sing along all the time. We brought this to a cookout this summer and even the 3-4 year-olds wanted to play with it, pretending to have a real picnic and "eat" the food. Highly recommended, well constructed, durable and well worth it!
My daughter got this toy for her 1st birthday and she still loves it at 16months. There are different stages of play at the different ages. At the beginning, she just loves to lift the lid (music and voice plays when you do that). and of course, it's just fun to dump stuff out with a crash and fill it all back in. later on she loves the idea of packing all the items in and lug the basket around, as if she were shopping. that was when she was in her shopping bag phase. She's also using it sort stuff now and mimics eating with the fork and drinking from the cup.
It's been really versatile so far :) am very pleased with it. As some people have said, there are many pieces and she also tried putting the "food" in her mouth. But those are teaching moments actually. I use this to teach her to play in a certain zone, how to pack her toys and also not to put things into her mouth! So those can be plus points ;)
My 1 year old niece loves this toy! by Suzanne Hopkins
I bought this toy as a birthday present for my niece's 1st birthday! She absolutely adores this toy! She loves taking all the shapes out and putting them back it. The picnic basket talks and allows the child to be interactive with it. I have a feeling my niece will continue to play with this toy for quite some time as she learns and grows. Another great LeapFrog toy!
Daughter's ongoing favorite toy by Jessica Maurer
I got this for my daughter for her second birthday, she LOVES the basket, loves the food and of course taking everything out and putting it back in. She also loves the songs that it plays and she uses it like a radio, keeps hitting the song button and dancing.
We have had this toy for almost 6 months now and it is still one of her favorites. She especially loves to take it on car rides and have pretend picnics in the car. We have misplaced the pieces on and off but we eventually get them all back together, they are a little hard to fit in the basket if you have all of them actually, but they do fit.
I think this is a great toy that little ones will love.
My Niece LOVES this, she is 13 months and it is perfect. The age of taking things out and putting them back in.
11 month old loves this toy by CapronAJ "AJ"
This is such a fun toy for my little girl, she plays with it for endless amounts of time. It teaches, it sings and you and can store all the pieces right inside.
I bought this for my 3 year old daughter.....It is all she plays with (for now). She has memorized all the songs (almost)!!! I would recommend!
Advanced 10 month old is in love with this toy by Mark Iswell "MI"
My daughter gets bored so easily! We've had this little lunch box for a few weeks now and she absolutely loves it. She can learn more about the pieces, shapes, etc as she grows for now she likes to dance around to the music, open and close the box and has her favorite pieces she carries all over the house with her. It always does the trick when I need her distracted for a few minutes while I do dishes or if I want to just hang out and play with her in one spot! Very happy with this one!
15 month old daughter LOVES it! by Jennifer Sharkey
One of my daughters favorite items to play with is a purse. Since she already had a few of those we were looking for something different as a first birthday gift. Luckily we stumbled upon this super cute picnic basket! She seemed to enjoy it at first, but now at 15 months old she just loves it. She likes to carry it around just like she does with her purses, and she also has fun playing with the items inside. There are 2 plates and 6 pieces of food. The food is shaped so that it fits into it's match on the plate. The picnic basket also talks and plays cute songs.
Great toy for girls! by MommyMickey
My daughter has so much fun with this toy. Its great because she learns and doesn't even know it! She loves the music when she opens the basket she starts dancing every time. Its great for the imagination and teaches them shapes and numbers.
My little cousin loved this picnic basket. She is 16 months old and loves to carry stuff around and load and unload it.
Great Imagination Toy by Kelli Hughes
I purchased this toy on a whim for my daughter's 1 year birthday. She is 17 months now and still loves to play with it. At first, the toy was useful as a means for her to empty and fill the basket. She also liked pressing the butterfly on the side to listen to the song. The voice on the basket is very sweet and cute and teaches things like shapes, colors, and manners. The sound can also be turned off or lowered by one notch (which is a big criteria for me when buying toys). We can set up the picnic and she is able to sort the food pieces onto the plate and will roll play "feeding" her stuffed animals or a nearby adult. Great interactive toy that will hopefully continue to grow with her changing play.
Lots of Fun! by Lauren Bentrup
My kids are 18 months and 3 years old, and they both love this toy. It is one of the few toys that they don't fight over because there is 2 of everything... so they play together in peace, yay! They also add in some of their stuffed animals and dolls to their picnics! This is a really great buy! :)
Birthday Gift well recieved. by Deanna Lynn
I bought this gift for my niece. It is a wonderful item. The pieces are durable and the animation on the basket is adorable. She has been playing it non-stop.
Absolutely adorable by lindazb
Bought this for my one year old granddaughter for Easter. She loves to open and close things - the basket has a cover that's hinged and divided, so both sides open and close. There's two little trays that have 3 cut outs for fake food -like a first puzzle, and ideal for this age group. There are two cups that make for "pretend" drinking and oversized plastic forks - again for pretend/makebelieve...eating/picnicking. A great toy.
My daughter loves this toy. by Renee Thompson
But she is only 13 months. So she doesn't quite understand the whole picnic idea yet. She likes to fit the foods in the spaces on the plates. Only downfall is that the pieces are easily lost.
Great fun! by Kristin Burton "kris
My 18 month old loves this picnic basket set! The food shapes & plates are so cute. She likes fitting the shapes into the designated indention in the plate. The basket is purple and the face on it is girly but other wise I think it would be fine for a boy or a girl. The songs it sings are so cute, too.
Fun for older ages too! by Becky Hoffman
My daughter asked for this picnic set for her 4th birthday. She knows her colors, shapes and doesn't really use the music but overall loves the idea of a picnic with her dolls. Leapfrog has high quality in everything they make and this is no exception. I recommend this from 6mos and on until playing kitchen is no longer important (but at 4 I think we have a long way to go with that).
A must have for those little playfood lovers! by K. Trzeciak "crazy w
We got this for my daughter's 3rd birthday. She loves playfood. It's so colorful and the food fits on the plates like a shape sorter. My daughter absolutely loves it! Every child needs a picnic basket and this is by far the cutest one I've seen. Definitely recommend...makes the perfect gift!
Should have been sold as "newly used" -not "new" by **
This toy should have been sold as "newly used" -not "new". I received this toy from Amazon taped back into it's original box and missing it's batteries. The amazon box was fine, the item's actual package was very dissappointing. I originally bought this item to take to a birthday party as a gift, but it is not suitable for a birthday party because of the packaging.
too girlish by Delphine Le Dorze "W
I made the mistake to order this toy for my one year old boy and will send it back right away. It is a ridiculously girlish looking!
