Fun for more ages than you might think by D. Smith
I got this toy for 9-month-old twins, but I was suprised to find that two to five-year-olds are also amused by it. I would not buy it specifically for older children, but if your baby has older siblings, this will be a hit with them as well.
It can become a hazard once your child is able to climb. It can become a stepping stool onto higher, dangerous places (like bookshelves and toy cabinets).
Other than that, it is a fantastic toy. There is a variety of music in there, so it is not as annoying for parents as some other electronic toys. It is also very sturdy. Ours has been through some serious abuse (it has even gotten soaked in the rain) and it still works well. Despite all the keys and buttons, it is fairly easy to clean.
Not as good as the older version by Mom of 2
I bought this table for my 7 month old since I had owned a previous version of the same thing (minus the Spanish part). Unfortunately I gave it away, so I recently purchased it again. The main board itself is great, fun, and keeps the attention of the little one. The bilingual addition to this toy is fantastic. It has a great variety of activities/sounds so not only is the little one entertained by it, parents don't have to hear the same things over and over again.
However, the legs feel really flimsy this time around. The older version had extra stabilizing 'feet' when you add the legs so there would be less tendency to tip over. I don't know why they decided to stop making them with this feature other than a cost issue on their end. Also, some of the new versions do not have the tabs on the legs, so once you attach the legs on, you cannot remove them. Which is again strange since they claim on the box that you can remove them. (apparently, the Leapfrog Company has told people to return this version to the store and get one with the tabs, but good luck finding one with tabs) The plastic legs are also more prone to bend in places it's not supposed to bend(I found this out when I tried to remove the legs.) Luckily, I was able to exchange it out as my baby doesn't stand up yet.
So, in summary, if you want to buy this table and your little one is still not ready to stand, check to see which type of legs the table comes with. If it has the tabs, you are in luck. If it doesn't, do not put the legs on until your little one is ready to stand.
The only one worth getting by M. Kelley "mommy"
My mom bought this table and I bought a Fisher Price table. The kids love the Leap Frog Table and hate the Fisher Price one. The Leap Frog one is awesome! It has two options, words or music. So for the little ones to whom words don't mean much, you can use the music reinforcement and my toddler (age 2) likes the word option now. Great for around age 8 months when they start pulling up to stand. Love Love Love this table.
We love this toy! by Heidi L. Marini
My daughter just got this for her first birthday and she loves it! Everything you touch on this table makes a noise - we especially love the trombone and the banjo. As you flip the pages to the "book" in the middle of the table, the songs and the sounds change. There are lots of movable parts for the kids to play with - the slide on the trombone moves, there is a slide on the violin, the banjo has a lever to pull, there is a barrel to roll, pages of the book to turn, shapes to press, and a compartment to open. It is very colorful and very sturdy, too. I would DEFINTELY reccomend this toy!
One of her favorites by Decorating Fanatic
My daughter can't even stand yet and she loves this toy. I usually pull her bumbo seat up to it or hold her sitting or standing while she pounds away. This toy is advised for older babies but she has been using it since 4 mos. She is now 6 mos and still can't operate all of the gadgets by herself but she sure does love to try.
Absolutely wonderful toy by Robert Lau
We first saw this at our pediatrician's waiting room. My baby was instantly attracted to all of the buttons and moveable objects. So we bought and could not be happier. It provides so much for them to do. He quickly learned how to switch between the two modes, music and words. The little open/close compartment is great for improving finger dexterity, we put balls, blocks, etc inside that he would then fish out. It was the first toy he would head to when he woke up. He would happily push, pull, and turn things, and dance to the music for half an hour before he moved to the next toy. Pretty much the perfect toy.
Lead, Arsenic and Bromine! by webninja
I was mildly disappointed that the the audio cuts in an out after a few months of use. I was looking for a solution, when I ran into a report that states this toy contains lead, bromine and arsenic!!! This is terrible in a child's toy, how can this go into production?

Excellent toy by Harold Fuentes "MMA.
Outstanding learning toy...I can see how this will be fun for my son for a long time. He is 11 mos. and is using it to improve cruising skills. Even with a short attention span, he is quick to return to the table shortly after he leaves it to play with something else. He is utterly fascinated by it. It is fun for parents and kids, as the music and verbal material is very pleasant to listen to. The added bonus is that it teaches Spanish, which helps his bilingual training. It is has a very nice "ABC" song in Spanish, with a pleasant sounding female voice for the Spanish mode. It will also sing in soprano "blueeee" or "azuuuuul" (spanish for blue), when the kid presses the blue key on the piano. This is all when it is verbal teaching mode. When u put it in musical mode, it just rocks out, playing all kinds of instrumentals. As an amateur musician, I really got a kick out how sophisticated this equipment is. For example, there are a circle, square, and triangular buttons which sound like very intricate conga drum solos when u press them in music mode, and in verbal mode, it will say "yellow...circle" and obviously the same in Spanish mode. Very nice piece of equipment that will surely have your child entertained and learning. I look forward to seeing him evolve with this and become a little Herbie Hancock, as he learns to manipulate the different sounds instead of pressing things randomly, kinda like a little DJ! Buy this one. Well worth it.
My son starting playing with this toy at 6 months old (with the legs off), he is now 16 months and still loves it more than any other toy. He loves the music and often dances along. He enjoys all of the various knobs and levers and can play with it for 15-20 minutes. I highly recommend this toy to anyone.
Don't buy.. Can't detach the legs once fitted by Phil
You can't remove the legs once attached. Many people have done the mistake and leapfrog haven't given a warning about the same.
Detachable legs don't detach by Sarah
The table itself is great, but I put the legs on it so my toddler could play with it and then went to take them off so the baby could play with it, only to find they don't detach as advertised. Upon contacting "customer service" I was told it was their mistake and that I could take it back to the store or they would send me a return label and a new one. I don't have the box or receipt so I can't take it back to the store and I don't have a box big enough to return it to them since it's quite large with the legs attached. I am amazed by the lack of service seeing as this is their problem. Just be sure yours is one that really has detachable legs before you throw the receipt and box away! Way to go, Leap Frog!
Although the recommended age is 18 months and up, my son is only 12 months and he enjoys it. He cannot walk YET and is still cruising around everywhere. He loves walking around this toy and pushing on all the buttons etc.
We bought this for our 10 month old who is learning to pull up. We thought this would be a good toy to learn on but as soon as she grabs onto the top it tips over on top of her. Once she is standing she seems to enjoy the toy. I wouldn't recommend it unless the child is already standing on their own.
The legs are not detachable by Dee Dee
Don't be fooled! You can use this on the floor or up on its legs. But once you put the legs on they do not come off. I contacted LeapFrog and they said they are modifying the packaging to indicate this. I had planned to return it but with the legs on it would require a large box and was just more of a hassle than I bargained for. So I kept it but was sorely disappointed. Had I known this I would have bought something else, or at least waited until my grandbaby was able to stand before I put the legs on. Either way, I can't remove them. A search of the net resulted in some directions on how to remove the legs but I felt like I was going to break them.
Good toy, LEGS NO LONGER COME OFF by M. Goldman
Great toy, but beware the legs do not come off. the new version in stores now has a new design according to customer service at leap frog and once you put them on (snap them into place) they can NEVER be removed. My 6 month old now cant play with this toy unless we hold him in a standing position. really annoying. we are returning. leap frog said the just have not gotten around to updating the box.
Great in more ways than one! by Paige P. Melton
We gave this to our 11 month old daughter. We wondered if it was a little young for her. Wrong. She loves it. She plays the music and dances. She likes switching between the learning and music. The container is a great place to put little snacks like Cheerios also. She knows she can open it and get a snack if she wants. She's 13 months old and still going strong with this toy.
GREAT TOY! by D. Johnson "military
I have a 9 month old daughter, and she absolutely loves this toy! She can spend so much time playing with it, and it definitely keeps her attention more than any other toy. I also have 2 friends with an 11 month old and a 13 month old, and they also love it. I wish I had purchased one when my 3 year old was younger, although she also enjoys playing with it now.
Fun Even for You! by Lisa Hernandez "Chi-
We recieved this as a gift for Christmas. At first, our son was a little shy of the lights and noises. But now, he loves opening and closing the storage box and loves turning the pages, listening to the music change. I also really enjoy this toy! The music is very catchy, but not annoying like most other children's toys. The ABC song is really fun, as well as the way they count. And the Spanish version is just an added bonus(We haven't experimented much with that yet, our son is only 6 months). He is not standing yet, so the table top is balanced on cubes, so he can sit real close and play with everything at once. This really is a great product, and I look forward to watching our son grow into everything on it!
definitely a must have by bklyngirly
I saw this on a magazine's "hot list" or something and ordered it, then I notice everybody with a child has one and now I see why! My son loves this. He can stand up on his own with it, first when I used to have to help him stand up and now when he can pull himself up by himself. It has a LOT of activities on it and best of all two volume levels. He will stand up with this for a good 20 minutes at a time. It is absolutely perfect. And if your baby has just learned to sit up on his own and you are uncomfortable having him stand, you can easily snap the legs off and let him play with the table top right on the floor. It is by far a must have and it will last a long time.
My son is 11 months and is not as interested anymore but it was his favorite for about 3-4 months. It works good for balance, just be careful early on- can tip over when child is getting up.
poor quality product, poor service by Juan Du
I bought this music table after reading all the good reviews but the product I got was defective. After my daughter has played with it 3~4 times, the music turned discontinuous and then became pure noise. I contacted Amazon for return but was told that they only allow 1 month for return and refund. I was instructed to contact Leapfrog. So I did. It was a nightmare trying to get Leapfrog's customer service to reply to my request. It took them TWO MONTHS to give me an answer which was that they could NOT refund me any money and all they could do was to give me a 15% off coupon. I was sooo frustrated and disappointed with both AMAZON and LEAPFROG. My suggestion to you would be to buy it from your local store if it has better return policies.
it broke after two months by Judy Smith
Our 10 month old daughter loved this musical table. It was great for standing practice (she's not walking yet but pulling herself up on everything). Unfortunately it doesn't work anymore and we didn't get a guarantee. We are very disappointed. Even with new batteries, it doesn't work. I feel ripped off but it doesn't seem there is any recourse without a guarantee or receipt. :(
I bought this for my 9 month old son who is learning to stand and pull up. It seems like a good toy and it is pretty sturdy. But there is one major problem with it that I hope they will fix for the next version.
There are about 10 functions that do various things, like numbers and shapes and colors and alphabet, but each thing interrupts the last thing before it can finish. If ever there were an ADD-inducing toy, this is it. All you hear is a cacophony of: "abcd - 1234 - red - 12345 - blue - abc - open - abcdefgh - lights on! - 1234567 - circle - yellow - 1234 - triangle - abcdefg - lights on ..." The whole teaching about cause and effect is completely negated by the fact that so many things are happening at once. So my son's opportunity at hearing the abc's is interrupted when he leans against the keyboard and hears "red!" and he doesn't understand the "open-shut" prompts, because while he's shutting it, he moves the trombone and hears numbers. It's too bad. If it weren't for that feature, this could actually be a pretty fun, semi-educational toy.
My son loved this toy begining at around 8 months old. He is 13 months now and it is still one of his favorite toys. It will keep him occupied for HOURS! (yay!)
I gave it only 4 stars for the following reasons:
After a month or two, we discovered that the toy would magically play a song when no one was around. We noticed the baby started waking again crying at night, and found that the table would play a round of music at 2AM. =) We just had to remember to shut it off before bed.
Secondly, I wish the legs had a little more 'heft'. When he started cruising, the table was not heavy enough to support his weight, leading to multiple face plants and bloody lips.
Otherwise, from my son's perspective, this is a great toy and comes highly recommended!
They Express Themselves With This Toy and You Don't Have to Teach Them How to Use It by Citizen John
My twin 9 month-olds love the LeapFrog Learn & Groove(tm) Musical Table. I don't mind it one bit. All the musical sounds are short lasting, so it's not annoying to listen to continuously. The number of different musical sounds coming from this toy is impressive. There are more musical sounds that they can create than with any of their other toys by far.
Since they're still so small, I'm not using the legs yet. I just place it on the floor, and sometimes they get right on top of it just to reach for all of the options from one position. If they're joyful, I can tell by the way they play with it. If they're sleepy and cranky, I can tell that also. If they hit a key intermittently, they're probably sleepy or distracted by something else. When they really go at it, they're full of energy and very happy.
This toy has requires different motor skills to create all the sounds. For example, there is a knob that must be pulled sideways, there is a "page" that must be flipped, there are piano-like keys and there are objects to hit. Surprisingly, they learned all of these options on their own within minutes of introduction to this toy. You don't have to teach a child how to use this toy.
My baby's favorite! by A. Pauley "Mommy to
I purchased this for my then 6 month old when he surprised me by learning to pull up to standing and it became an instant favorite. The Leapfrog Learn and Groove Musical table is sturdy, well designed, has catchy tunes and music. My son is now 9 months old and still seems to be his favorite! It's a safe place for him to stand and play without worrying about him pounding on my laptop! :) I would highly recommend this toy to any parent looking for a fun, interactive toy for their baby.
Shoddy workmanship/lacking customer service by Jonathan E. Kropp
After having this toy for less than a year, the audio failed to work; the lights did work. I replaced the batteries to no avail. I called customer "service" and they told me that after 90 days, there was nothing they could do. Ironically, they offered me a 15% coupon of another Leapfrog item. I would not waste my money on a brand like Leapfrog that can't even last for a reasonable period. I am disappointed that the product did not last and that Leapfrog would not replace or repair it.
Great, but... by Tarina Anthony
My daughter loves this table. I bought it for her because she is not yet crawling but she LOVES to stand. She will stand and cruise all day if I let her.
The educational bits seem good, but it's hard to know what she's really absorbing, so I can't go with a 5-star on that.
Here are my two complaints about the "durability" (I put it in quotes because I don't know if these are really comments about durability or just design): one, it's not very heavy. My daughter can't pull herself up on it--it tips over. Maybe when she's better at pulling herself up and just needs a little assistance, it'll be better, but she can tip it quite easily. Two, the bottoms of the legs don't have any texture on them. They slide really easily on the floor, especially on hardwood floors, but even on our rugs. This makes it hard for a baby who is using it to stand to not slide all over the place.
Neither of these issues are huge deals because when she plays with it, I hold it in place. Just know that if you have a pre-walker, they'll need a little more vigilance.
My daughter LOVES this table! (It's worth repeating.) She likes pushing the buttons, turning the page in the middle and opening/closing the little door. The "learning mode" is a little repetitive for me, though, and I get a bit sick of hearing "red...green....green...green....yellow....green....gre-green, green." Haha. Worth it for the joy of the little one, though.
Highly recommend!
Also, still engaging for the toddlers that come visit. :)
When I first reviewed this toy, I posted that the sound got stuck so that it skipped like a button was stuck or something. It just needed its batteries replaced. We have had this table for a handful of months and my 13 month old loves playing with it (note he's been walking for about 4 months). You of course have to be a parent that likes noisy toys but I don't find any of the sounds annoying at all.
My 9 month old grandson loves this toy. He's just starting to stand up on things so I put the legs on it. The bottom of the legs are very slippery on carpet so he would push it then bang his head on it when it slipped away. We just roughed up the bottom of the legs with coarse sandpaper and now it doesn't slip away.
Great toy! by Elissa
We gave this to my 13 month-old son this morning, and so far he hasn't left it other than to tote the box from it around once in a while. It went together EASILY - it's just the table and four legs, and the legs snapped right in. It could also be used with just the table for a child that isn't standing yet. I do feel however that for a child that's standing/walking but needs to pull him/herself up on things still, that it may not be sturdy for that purpose - best left on the floor until they're getting up on their own. I say this only b/c the table has a bit of weight to it, but the legs do not, so it's top heavy and would probably tip relatively easily for a child trying to use it for support. The legs do angle out a bit, so it could be a more stable for pulling up on than I think, but I'd rather err on the side of caution with something like that.
This has off and two volume settings, as well as both English and Spanish. Several musical instruments are represented on here (piano, violin, banjo, trombone, maracas), and at least on the low volume (where I keep pretty much everything), the sound is quite reasonable. So far it seems great, my son especially likes the "book," since he loves turning pages. It's got colors, shapes, and the alphabet, as well as the sounds of each of the instruments represented.
Entertaining! Love It! by AuntieC
After reading the other reveiws, I purchased this toy for my 13-month old niece and it is wonderful. She plays with it everyday, and it is light enough for her to move from room to room. She prefers the music more than the words and dances to it, and I love watching her dance. The other good thing is the recorded voice does not have that annoying tinny quality.
I purchased this product for my grandson 1 year grandson last year for Christmas. He absolutely loves it! Every time he comes to the house, it was of the first toys he runs to. I like the fact that it has music, numbers, and alphabet. There could have been more than one page to run on the 'book' portion, but he loves it just the same. The height is shorter than I expected. This is a very durable toy because my grandson went through a stage of throwing his toys; he picked this up threw it, has climbed on top of it, has jumped on it when it was upside down! This tables has definitely taken a licking, but it's still ticking and in great shape. It still looks brand new.
My son received this as a gift after a similar one from Fisher Price stopped working. I have to say that this one is better, very entertaining and my son seems to love it. There are 2 settings, one for music and one for letters/numbers. The music is actually not as irritating as some of the other toys we've had. I would recommend this highly.
Highly recommend this toy by Mother of 2
We purchased this for our 5 month old son for Christmas last year and it has been well worth the purchase. When he was smaller, we took the legs off and he really enjoyed playing with it on the floor. As he has gotten older (he is now 15 months), we have put the legs on and he continues to love it. He learned to stand while playing with it and has spent hours playing with the different buttons and learning cause and effect. It is a great value and it has survived our 4 year old as well--it is very durable. I would highly recommend this if you are considering it---well worth the money, especially since it is still being played with and I doubt he will be bored with it anytime soon.
Durable and Fun for a Variety of Ages by Megan Ellinger
I first bought this toy for my daughter who is now three. She played with it from the time she was first able to stand (it is sturdy enough for a child to pull themselves up on without tipping over) until around 2-2 1/2 years. She was very rough on this toy--climbing on top of it, spilling juice on it and pushing it around the room.
It has washed up well with a few bleach wipes and looks good as new now that my son is starting to take interest in it at 10 months.
All in all, I am very pleased with this toy and it would be near the top of my list if I were going to purchase a gift for another child.
cought my baby's attension by A mom of twins
i have a baby & two 4 years old preschoolers.i bought this toy for the baby that has just started to walk & climb. she's all over the place & she's off course trying to get her self in every "not permitted area" (specially behind the computer)& she's going after her sisters whom are very active. i thought about this toy to divert her a little & my idea payed off.
my preschoolers love it as well. i rated the educational value as 5 stars. i didn't see this in practice yet because my preschoolers are a little older for the english information in it & the baby is a little younger but i can see that my preschoolers are starting to sing the spanish alphabet song.
another thing that i really love & enjoy so so much is when my baby presses the music keys & keeps on dancing. this on it's own worth a big deal
This table is fun, but buyer beware regarding the legs on this toy! First, many of the pics of this item are NOT of this item! The table with the wide feet and blue lights around the center is an older item which is no longer made (I tried the older version at a friend's house and loved it). The wide feet provided a wonderfully stable base for this toy. However, the new version (with red lights) has unstable legs which are prone to tipping on your child. The legs are also NOT detachable on all units. I was told by Leap Frog that the only way to know whether they are detachable is to unbox the toy and look on the bottom of the item for a "press here" indicator where the legs attach. Seriously?? I'm not sure of a store that is going to allow me to open all the items to find the one with detachable legs! That said, I have the one with the NON-detachable legs and mistakenly attached them BEFORE my child was able to stand independently. Any attempts to use this toy to pull to stand result in this toy tipping onto my child. UGH! So, this toy requires VERY close supervision (as in my holding onto my child while he plays with it in order to avoid him pulling it over onto himself). Other than that, the noises are a bit annoying with a very jazzy lady belting out sounds and songs, so I typically leave it in the OFF position. Why oh why can't toy makers make SIMPLE cause and effect toys with short bursts of sounds rather than these long, annoying, never-ending songs and sounds? Oh, how I miss the simpler times!
