I heartily recommend this toy. My son (9 months old now) got this toy for Christmas when he was 6 months old. He has loved this drum. He plays with it almost every day and has learned cause and effect from it as well as just enjoying the banging. I like the fact that it has a lower volume button as most baby toys are too noisy. He has lots of toys (he is a third child) but really enjoys this one!
I've never posted a review on Amazon but I have to speak up in favor of the Flash Beat Drum. It is seriously underappreciated with only three reviews thus far! My one-year old boy does his happy dance and applauds wildly whenever he hears the Caribbean-style tunes. We have a room full of toys, and he reaches for this one first.
This is a very entertaining toy! We've had it for several months and it's played with daily. There are different sounds, tunes and lights that keep my son interested. One button plays short Caribbean-sounding melodies; it's very cute and not annoying like a lot of baby toys. Volume control is good.
2 daughters 15month and 2.5yrs. Both enjoy the toy, both dance to music and the pad on top that you hit is touch sensative and lights up different with every time you hit it. size is perfect. daddy was a drummer, and enjoys also.
This is a fantastic toy. I think the sound is great and it makes many different sounds depending on which button is pushed it also plays music faster and slower depending on how fast/slow it is rolled. My daughter loves it!
OK But Lost Interest by K. Carrington
I was excited about this toy when I read the reviews. We've been playing music , signing and dancing with our baby since he was a few months old. Now at 10+ months he claps his hands when we sign "if you're happy and you know it..." well you get it. He also will hold a tambourine and strike it with his free hand . All context for the fact that we are encouraging his artistic exploration. We got the drum and was happy with the size. Just right for him and not too big. He was excited as it was NEW. Over time though he would simply flip the thing upside down a few times and leave it. No matter how much we tapped on it, rolled and tried to encourage use. Can't make a baby do what you want all the time. The thing I wasn't crazy about is when your in drum mode and tap it, the sound and light seems delayed and somewhat muted. My mom brought over a empty tin of sugar cookies and he bangs on that more than this. Go figure. Not the toys fault but he's just not that into it.

UPDATE: Originally, I gave this toy only two stars as my son had a rather lukewarm reception to it. However, after a couple of days, he started to push it around and enjoyed the music as it rolled.
He also started to bang the drum quite boisterously, which is what is needed in order for the drum to light up and make a sound. Now, he really likes it and this is one of his "go-to" toys in his room.

After reading the glowing reviews, I was eagerly anticipating the arrival of this toy since my baby LOVES to drum things. He bangs like a bongo player on everything. Unfortunately, everything, but this toy.
There is a very tiny delay from when you hit the drum to when it lights up and makes a sound. While the delay is infinitely tiny, it is enough that it doesn't feel like the sound is 100% related to the banging.
Factor in that the toy makes noise when it falls over and rolls and plays music constantly, it doesn't give enough feedback to connect the banging with the sound. You also have to hit the top very hard in order to hear a sound, so sometimes my son would bang the surface and nothing would happen. He does like to scratch the top with his fingernails and finds that sound much more satisfying.

The best part is this toy is fun even when you turn off the switch. My little one smacks it, rolls and crawls with it all the things she'd normally do with it when its all lit up and playing the music. So if you want quiet time, less music, this toy work great. It is light enough so even if she lifts and somehow bummps her head to it, doesn't get much hurt. btw, the music is soft too, not very loud and noisy!
This is one of the best toys that grandma has found for my 8 month old babies. They love it. They like to bang on things but are too small for any drum with drumsticks. This is great since they can just bang on it. I also love the fact that it makes noise when it rolls since they both just learned to crawl and enjoy chasing after this as it rolls around.

This toy may look simple but it is very entertaining for my 7 month old. It is terrific for learning cause and effect. The lights are bright enough when used indoors to really appreciate the drum. The two volume setting are great. There are 4 modes: 1 makes a drum sound when you hit it, 2 makes funny noises when you hit it, 3 plays a pleasant tune 4 plays some notes when rolled on it's side.

This is, hands down, the best gift we have received in our son's first year of life. He has not tired of it in months, he dances like crazy to the songs (which are actually really good), and it entertains him more than the exersaucer when I need to make dinner, etc. I cannot recommend this enough. This is far less annoying than some other electronic toys and I love how it has different modes for drums & other musical sounds. And it also has a soft & loud option.
It sits perfectly in between the legs of my 7month old and he loves to bang away at it. And when he lays down in his pack n play, he kicks it and it works well as a kick n' play.
He really seems to be learning cause and effect with this toy.

No complaints so far. Works like it should. My nephew seems to like it although his attention span is about 10 seconds long. The only improvement I would suggest is that the drum should be triggered by a slap on the outer edges of the drum.. not just by a slap on the middle of the drum. Otherwise, a worthwhile purchase.

Our 10 month-old son loves this toy! He beats on the drum and when the music plays he starts rocking in its rhyme! when the drum is rolled he plays different kind of music and it makes him keep going towards the sounds, so he is actually crawling more. Well worth the money! The shipping was fast also!

The colors are brilliant and bright... our 15 month old is in love with it. To my surprise, it doesn't seem to be much of a battery guzzler like most toys. Only downside is it's VERY sensitive. Closing a door 15 feet a way can set it off (ever the lowest volume is still kinda loud) and it's scary/annoying/frusterating and will wake my little guy from a nap if I forget to turn it off. Worth buying, for sure though

This toy brought hours of fun to my little 11 month old boy. He has been exposed to a lot of international music so the rhythms are fun for him. He dances and moves his whole body when listening to the music. The toy also has different buttons that he manipulates to play the tune he wants. I recommend it to anyone who wants to expose their children to international musical rhythms.
Got this for my grandson last christmas, we watch him every Monday and Friday, he is now 18 months and still plays with this once and a while, it is a fun toy and durable, still works great.

This drum is great. Our son goes over to it every day and happily bangs on top of it. He loves the lights when the songs play! The songs are pretty good EXCEPT for one song that gets stuck in our heads. We can't escape this song! My husband and I will just catch each other humming it's tune at odd times. We can't get this song out of our heads! But the baby does love his drum so it's definitely a keeper!

My little guys love this toy, and so do we! It is actually CHARMING! The children love the different types of sounds, the lights, and that it even chimes as you roll it along, and we enjoy the volume control and the sounds that are not tinny and headache-inducing. This musical drum is fun for our son. I noticed this morning that he realized how to tap - er, pound - on the top to make the short staccato beats. The lights and sounds are eye-catching, and he loves to roll it around and over. I can see it being useful as he learns to crawl. We introduced it at 4-months-old and he is now a little over 6-months.
My little girl loves to bang on this drum. There are different sounds that came out based on which button is pressed. The purple button allows for music which gets my daughter dancing and rocking!
Good Toy for A 1-Year Old by M. Dorin
I purchased this musical drum for my 1-year old grandson. He loves it! I will have to wait to hear if it survives his banging away on it, but I'm sure he will enjoy all the varied sounds he can make with it as he experiments with banging and tossing it all over the place. He also takes delight in listening to it make music on it's own, so it can be a static as well as dynamic toy. It is not fragile, so I'm not worried about him breaking it right away. Also, it has no sharp edges or corners and is soft. It came with batteries and it has an on/off switch to preserve the parent's sanity. My daughter received this toy from Grandma as a gift at 7 mo old and she plays with it every day! She LOVES to bang it, roll it, chew on it, and even wiggle her little booty to the music! This toy is definitely a big hit! She likes the drum sounds, the silly sounds, and the music (3 tunes- they are great songs and I don't mind dancing to them as well!).
This quickly became my sons favorite toy. There are three different settings for the drum. One makes silly sounds when you hit it, another makes drum noises, and the last one will play a fun song. Every time you tap the drum it lights up and easily grabs the attention of my 9 month old. It also plays and lights up if you roll it on the side of the drum. You have the option of making the noise softer or louder (there are 2 settings for this). It's a great interactive toy that keeps my son engaged. It's simple, in that he only has to hit the top or roll it back and forth on the floor to play, so it's great if your infant isn't pressing buttons or playing with more complicated toys yet. It's also fun for them if they are. I'm sure it will be around for a while, and even the adults have fun using the toy to play with my son and make different drum beats. I highly recommend it.

My boys have had this drum for over 1 year now, it has been through a lot with my boys and it is one of their favorite toys. It has held up very well and I enjoy watching them as they dance around it while it plays the music.
My 1 year old got this drum for his 1st Birthday. It's his new favorite toy and he plays with it all the time.
My little boy got this for Christmas when he was about 9 months old. He LOVED it! Not only does he love music but he loves to bang on things. He opened it up and played with it right away. He loves to change the settings and dances to the musical one that plays a little tune. He loves the colors and he loves to bang in it! This is a fabulous toy! He is a year now and still loves it! it is also very durable as he rolls it around and drops it all the time! Always a plus with my little guy!

I bought this toy for my youngest grandson when he was just six months old. He is now 20 months old and still loves it. My daughter says it is the very best toy I have ever bought for the kids, and trust me, I have bought way too many! His 4 year old brother also plays with it on occasion.

I was very please to open the box and find this drum. It is very colorful and the light up feature is really cool. Very eye catching for the 1 1/2 year old I bought it for. The music can be turned to a lower setting which is a nice option. I was very pleased with this drum, it's exactly what I was looking for.

This drum was a huge hit! (pun intended) Seriously, my daughter loved this from the start- the best part is that there are different settings and I like that when you hit it once, it goes once. Because many of the cause and effect toys we have play this long song when you hit it once, and I wanted her to have to hit more often- she was getting bored waiting for the song to end.

My son received this drum as a gift when he was 9 months old. He's 3 years old now, and still loves it. It's the only battery powered toy that we actually like, and the calypso-style music is enjoyable instead of irritating. In spite of heavy use, it doesn't use too many batteries (I think we've only changed them once or twice in all this time), and it takes real abuse (it's been dropped more times than I can count). Every few months my son invents a new way to play with it. At nine months he liked to hit it to make sounds. Now he turns on the music for "exercise" (jumping around the living room). Great toy
