Hands Down, an Edmund Classic! -- Hand Boilers are looped and twisted glass sculptures containing a liquid that will "boil" as heat is transferred from your bare hand. Simply hold the large bulb end in the palm of your hand and within minutes, your body heat will cause the liquid to rise. - Once out of your hands, it takes a few minutes for the liquid to cool down and return to the large bulb. Pretty fascinating science toy and an excellent demonstration of energy transfer. Comes in three different colors: blue, green and red - let us pick one for you.

We got this handboiler for our 9 year old son on his birthday. He is very interested in science so we thought he'd get a kick out of this. You place the base of the boiler in the palm of your hand, wrap your fingers around it and seconds later the liquid travels up the tube and starts boiling in the top. It is a pretty cool trick that all his brothers wanted to try. It is something that is fun to do over and over again. The only downside is that it is thin glass and extremely fragile. Do not buy for very young children.
Hand Boilers--Hooray!! by S. Ferrell
I bought these as a gift for a counselor who works with high school students. The kids get to play with stuff in the counseling office while there and they find it a pretty nice place to be. As a result, they visit more, talk more, and find good results there. The hand boilers are a bit fragile (one broke within a day) but they kids think they are great!
hand boiler by bebe
grandson loved it...i received fast service...hand boiler was wrapped really well to prevent breakage...the hand boiler is made of 'blown' glass, which makes it very fragile...
I used to have a pen that had a little hand boiler attached to it, and have been wanting a replacement lately. Rather than pay too much for that, I decided to give these a try. On looking around a bit, maybe I should have just purchased Aqua Bubble Pen instead. Matches my old one.)
The biggest downside of this toy is that you get whichever model is sent to you. That could mean a very interesting boiler, or a very plain one. Unfortunately, I received what I would consider to be the plain one. The one with green liquid in the picture. I understand these are cheap items, and it is partially due to you not getting a choice, but I was still a bit bummed about that.
Beyond that, it is a hand boiler. The glass feels a little flimsy, and it looks like it could tip very easily. A sturdy base to hold it would have been nice.
If there are better hand boilers around the same price range, I haven't found them. It is a neat desk toy, at least until a cat sends it crashing to the ground.
Very delicate, arrives broken by PinkSneakers
I loved these when I was a child. The heat from your hand makes the liquid bubble and move up the glass coils. However, I've ordered twice from two different sellers and both have arrived shattered because they were not properly packaged. I had to get a refund both times from amazon. I have now ordered from a different seller and will send them a message or call them to PLEASE package this delicate glass carefully! If I were to get one that wasn't shattered, it's going to be awesome!!
This toy is really awesome. As other reviewers said, it's very delicate, but as long as it's handled carefully then it's completely fine. Kids and grownups that I work with are completely fascinated by it.
Awesome hand boiler! by JKub_eXtreme
The hand boiler was a gift for a friend. She loves it and it came in a timely matter. The box was a little bent up, but the hand boiler itself was wrapped really well and was well-protected.
For anyone questioning the durability, this is exactly as promised. A thin glass item is not exactly durable, but it is as durable as you would expect from it. In the last day of ownership, my office has thoroughly enjoyed watching just how fast we can make this thing boil when we're super stressed. Definitely a help in making your stress into something fun to laugh it. Looks cool, makes science cool. Great product :)
Not enough liquid for a constant boil by McCooms
I was really disappointed in this hand boiler. I have seen them in the past and thought they were pretty cool. However, the one I received had too little liquid. This only allowed the bubbling action for a moment or two, and without more liquid to continue the boil it simply comes back down the tube.
Would not recommend this particular hand boiler to anyone.
Embarrassed by Mary
When I saw this item I was excited to get my son a little scientific gadget. What we got was a Love thermometer in a box that looked like it came right off a table at a fle-market. This would have been a great idea had it really been geared towards science but it wasn't. I would not recommend this item to a friend.
The "hand boiler" I ordered to give as a Christmas gift arrived broken. Haven't yet arranged to send it back -- not sure it's worth the hassle for a few bucks. Beware!
Very Unique ! by M. Fiore "Stuckin80'
My 12 year old son is so hard to buy for, especially stocking stuffers so when I saw this I knew he would enjoy it. I just wish we didn't get the plain green one and that's what we got. Unfortunately you cannot pick what color you want. It is extremely fragile so I am hoping it lasts past Christmas !
Awesome science demonstration tool by RS
Excellent example to use to show that boiling points of some liquids can be extremely low. They come in several colors and really got students' attention.
Cheap and Boring by Paula Schmidt "Jelly
Got this for my grandson. Nothing to explain how it works. The liquid stayed in the top after he warmed it with his hands - why? It snapped when he was warming it on the second day. Not worth the tears.
grandkids liked the boilers. I don't like the ridiculous layout of the amazon comment process which makes me write a written review even if I don't want to.
