5Good infant toy. I may have some answers for problems listed in other reviews! by kjs "speck's mom"

I'm not a huge fan of Baby Einstein stuff, but my son loved this octopus as an infant. We would play the songs for him again and again and he seemed to like it. One thing they don't show you is that the underbelly of the octopus is colorful and a baby likes to look up at the BOTTOM of the octopus, not just the face part. We hung this toy (has a velcro strap on top) over our son's bassinet when he was awake during the days. When we took it down to play with it with our son, we would sometimes spin it around while he looked at the bottom of it. It held his attention so he must have liked it.

It is soft and (I thought) a decent size. It's true that it doesn't "sit up" well for long. It ends up getting kind of floppy-headed and its head will lean back on its legs when it's set down on the floor. This doesn't affect its use in any way, it's just an annoyance for those of us who keep trying to get its head to sit up nice.

The songs are played by pressing on the head. It IS really sensitive, but that's so a baby can make it work. The color words are played by pressing the circles on the feet. They are too difficult for a baby to work.

I didn't mind the music, although I agree with one reviewer who said one of the songs reminded her of circus music. There is one song which is kind of frentic (I called this one "the crazy song"). The music is very electronic sounding, not soothing. This toy is definitely designed for play time.

My son is almost 2 now and we still have the Octoplush. Here are my observations after having this thing for so long:

1) The toy will go crazy when the batteries are low. Before they stop working, they seem to make the toy act bizarre and work in weird ways. If your Octoplush is acting up, it may be the batteries need to be changed.

2) The songs are long (as one reviewer pointed out). But you can stop the music at any time by pushing one of the buttons on the feet. It'll say "blue" (or whatever color you push) and then be quiet.

3) My son can barely get the feet buttons to work even now. I can get them to work just fine (it's not broken), but even a young child (not a baby) has trouble with it.

4) It's true that you can choose English, French, or Spanish for the color words. That's great, but I can speak enough French and Spanish to tell that some of these words are pronounced so poorly that it's hard to make out what the little electronic voice is saying (some of them make me laugh). Don't expect your child to "pick up" all these words while blithely playing with the Octoplush. The quality is not good enough for that. If the recordings were better (which would be easy for the company to do), then maybe so. This is the main reason why I don't give this toy a 5-star rating. I think this is its biggest fault...the poor quality of the recordings for the words (including the English too).

But that being said, this toy only costs about $12 so I think it's well worth the price.

5This guy is awesome! by C. Heelen "~Mommo~"

My daughter received this toy for Christmas. It quickly became a favorite of hers and therefore my husband's and mine as well. Baby girl is 9 months old now, and this guy keeps her entertained during diaper changes, toweling off after a bath, or anytime we need to put her down for a second to grab a diaper or a change of clothes. She has really put him through his paces and he holds up well. He's been spit up on, chewed remorselessly, even chucked into the diaper pail and he always comes out unscathed.

5One of Baby's Favorite Toys by Candy L. Lawson "Can

My daughter is 4 months old and we have to take this toy with us whenever we visit friends of family. It plays music fine for her and the colors work. The only problem we have is that she listens to the music so often that the tunes get stuck in your head.

5Octoplush by Crystal Wlodarczyk

This toy is 3 languages, most toys are only English and Spanish and I specifically purchased this because it goes to French as well. My son's aunt is willing to teach French to him and this toy will help Mommy practice with him!

5this octopus has lost it's mind! by deal catcher

We received this toy at our baby shower, and were thrilled to get it. However, when we first started using it with baby, we noticed that it began to say the wrong color associated with the wrong foot. we would press the red foot, and it would say yellow. or press the white foot and it would say purple. Sometimes now, I'll just be walking by it, without pushing anything, and it will shout out a random color. Obviously, this isn't teaching our daughter anything!

5Great investment from birth onwards! by Libra

Our twin boys loved 'Ollie the Octoplush' from one month onwards -- they believe Ollie talks to them, they respond to his cheerful face, babble back and brighten with wide smiles at the tunes. At six months they self-activate color buttons on Ollie's arms and hug him for comfort. Good to alternate between the 'color talk' and music, they'll learn colors in French and Spanish as they grow. The underside of each arm is satin fabric in its corresponding color. We are VERY selective with developmental toys and Octo is one of our best buys so far!

5Even bigger babies like it! by Jen J

I've noticed mostly mamas of younger babies have done reviews, so I thought I'd add one for my bigger boy. :)

He's 13 months, and takes this thing EVERYWHERE with him. If he realizes it's in his bed without him in there too, he'll stand there and cry until someone fetches it out for him, then run away all thrilled.

He knows how to turn the music on by himself (has for a few months now), and even knows to push the arms to stop the music. Smart boy!

He's not talking yet (aside from mamamamama ;D) so the colours being read to him still don't register I don't think, but if he stays in love with this another 6 months, then I could see this as helping him learn!

5High Five to Octoplush! by Melina

My daughter absolutely loves this toy. She is 10 months old now and this Octoplush has been her favority toy since she was able to hold for the first time many months ago. This toy works wonders for us. It calms her when she is crying or can't fall sleep, it makes her happier when she is excited, it absorbs all of her anger when she is mad :). It really works wonders. She has plenty of toys and she uses them all, but for the things that matter, this is the toy she grabs. The only bad thing about it is that with all of the drops and hits, the music box inside does not live long. We have gone through 3 of them already and we keep on buying them because our daughter loves it!

5Octoplush by K. Hill

My husband bought this octopus for our daughter. She will smile at it when it plays music, but she's not very interested in it. I don't blame that on the toy as she's just not that into any of her toys.

The color spots on the arms are a little too difficult for a baby to push since you have to squeeze it just so between your thumb and forefinger. The octopus head plays very easily though. Maybe annoyingly so. I'd placed it in a chair while my daughter was sleeping and then put some clothes on top of it and the thing started playing music. Twice! And the songs seem to go on FOREVER. I usually press one of the legs to get it to shut up. Thankfully, there is volume control and I never use the loudest setting. Oh, and I hate the music. The first tune reminds me of circus music. That's just a personal preference though and it might not annoy others.

It's odd shape makes it difficult to hold or tote around. My daughter who carts around the largest and heaviest objects her tiny hands can carry, has never toted this anywhere.

One of the arms is no longer working despite the fact that this toy gets minimal play.

On the plus side, I think this is a toy that I will get more use out of as my daughter grows. Once she can press buttons on the arms herself, I think it will aid her in learning her colors. Maybe even in Spanish.

I gave this a rating of 3 stars. One star was deducted for the broken arm and the other was deducted for the awkward shape and the parental annoyance factor.

5Love it! by Stacy

This was recieved as a baby shower gift. My son has loved it since he was born and even now at 10 months old. Highly recommend it!

5Excellent product... by Santiago Garcia

My 6 month son really likes the toy... the only issue is that the music box is not well covered.

Great tunes when he touches the face.. In fact, the face is very sensitive to touch that the arms.

5NOT PLUSH!! by Fish Lady "Guppy"

So I was looking for a really good toy for my 4 month old, and believed all the great reviews I read here. I could not be more disappointed with what arrived. I thought the fabric would be soft, maybe velour. Instead is it some horrible scratchy artificial fabric. The head of the octopus contains a big heavy sound box with a horrible velcro flap on the back to let you change the languages etc. But it means that the head is not at all soft to hug (almost heavy and hard enough to bruise, not to mention scratchy). It is so heavy, the thing won't even sit up without falling over. Finally, it is not really very well made - the images on the tentacles are not centered properly, and the buttons within the tentacles are small and difficult to find - how is my baby supposed to hit those!?! Come to think of it, the music isn't very inspired either.

Maybe this is now being manufactured from cheaper materials? Is Baby Einstein that hard up?

5i love this product by Brook

i bought this for my cousin's newborn girl. i love this product when i first received it and was having fun playing with it (cant image a 20 years old girl even got addictive playing the octoplush lol). it is an excellent and well-designed product!

5Love the toy -- wish I could hang it on her stroller by D.J.

This is a great toy. My daughter loves it. The face is inviting. The music is enjoyable and easy to trigger with touch or motion. Squeezing the legs stops the music and verbalizes the color that goes with that particular leg (and if you turn him upside down the legs are appropriately colored on the underside, with the color name written in multiple languages). The only change I would make would be to have a ring attached to his head so I could safely take him on stroller rides or in the carseat carrier. Don't buy the Hanging Octopus and think it has it all -- that toy is a very disappointing rip-off of this one. This is definitely worth the money and will grow with your child.

5Octoplush by Amanda Grant

My daughter likes this because it is soft and she can grab it and squeeze it really hard. When she squeezes it the music plays and it is really pleasing the the ears!

The numbers on the legs for the octoplush are very nice and pretty. I do however find every now and then this thing has a mind of its own and likes to play all by itself.

My daughter likes it, I like it. Would recommend as it is cute and for the price, you can't go wrong!

5No Title by Debbie Anderson

Bought this for my youngest grandson who is seven months old. It's cute enough, but with no flashing lights like other toys I bought, he wasn't as interested. But it's soft and it makes a noise and he can drag it around with him so for a seven month old, it's a good gift.

5Wonderful Toy by Shannon Hensel

We bought this for our daughter when she was two months old, and now at 10 months she still loves him. The three songs are fun and the language choices are nice. Two sets for volume is also a great feature in my opinion.

Recently though, the button for the color red stopped working. I emailed customer service for KidsII and told them about the problem. They sent me a brand new Octopus with no hassle. It was a really great experience. This makes me feel so much better about purchasing more of their products in the future.

53 months and counting and it is still love at first sight!! by JR

I have purchased my daughter many toys since her birth, but this littl guy still remains one of her true favorites. Soft, easy to hold, and extremely educational, Mr. Squigglies as he is affectionaly called in our home, continues to keep my daughter entertained with its music, and now that she can squeeze harder, pressing down on the buttons to listen to it give out colors in three different languages. She also enjoys just holding it close, or her favorite thing to do, baby talk to it in high pitched squeals of delight.

My fiance and I love this so much, I purchased the hanging one for the car, just so he is along for the ride.

Bythway, someone in a review had mentioned the language setting for spanish did not sound so good, not true. The words for Spanish, as well as French, as prounced with exacting clarity. Both languages voice appear to be done by the same person, accept for the Engish one, which is a different voice and different tone.

Sadly, one of her little cousins got their hands on it and damaged the purple leg, but that is ok. If need be, i will have no problem buying her a new one.

This one is a winnnr folks!! one of the company's buried treasures amongst so many toys in their line. Don't pass it up!!

5Love it! by M. Piercefield "djlo

My 3 month old loves this octopus! She loves the music and just stares at him smiling while the music is playing!

5Great toy!! by Camille May-renshaw

This is a great toy. I have 2 children and it has been one of their favorites.

5cute toy by Christy J. Langston

I bought this toy as a gift for my cousin and it is just the cutest thing. It plays all the songs when you squeeze its head and when you squeeze its little arms it says colors in 3 different languages. I am going to leave it on french as a surprise when she opens it up on Christmas but I have had fun testing it out. All in all it was a good buy and I would highly recommend it to anyone with infants that are babbling just learning to speak.

511mo loves octoplush! by pancakes

its a great toy! my 11mo loves the bright colors and sounds, and likes to mimic the spoken words (colors).
has a convenient on/off switch, and a language converter en/sp/fr. it's absolutely one of his favorite toys.
this octoplush get tossed around, chewed on, slobbered on, and is still in pretty great condition!
highly recommended for moms & babies!

5scratch factor by C. Insana "mommy ext

I bought this toy when my son was 3 months old and he has really liked it from the get-go. He is now 6 months old and loves the music and the way it says the colors when you press the tentacles. It's great that it says the colors in english, french, and spanish. The only issue I have with this toy is that the velcro flap on the back doesn't cover the music box well. One time when my son was playing with the toy, the velcro gave him a huge scratch all the way down the side of his face. Needless to say I now check it often to make sure the velcro back is fastened properly, but I really have to stretch the fabric to make the velcro line up. Otherwise, it's a great toy and he still loves it. The music is fun and not too annoying, although the songs do tend to get stuck in your head.

5VERY CUTE by Debra L Erlandson

VERY NICE. IT IS BRIGHT AND CHEERFUL. THE SONGS ARE LIVELY SO THE CHILD WOULD BE INTERESTED. IT HELP THE OLDER CHILD TO LEARN HER COLORS.

5Ok toy by Happymom

I havent been able to get my son to play with it. It did arrive when expected was nicely packaged and all the parts worked.

5Eye catching by Gloria Flores "OC Sh

My 3 month old niece loves the octoplush. She loves listening to the music and looking at the bright colors. It was a good purchase. She will start reaching for it soon!

5great toy by Chrissy

my daughter picked this out ( with grandpa's help!) when she was about 4 months old. she is now almost 9 months old and this is still one of her favorite toys. she gets bored easilty once she has a toy 'figured out'. so we've gone through a whole lot of boring toys, and this one has her attention the second she hears one of it's little tunes play. i like that it has an off/loud/quiet switch bc its nice to use a toy in public that you can hear across the store or restaraunt. i would recommend this toy to anyone for sure.

5Wonderful educational toy by Chaney Lyna "Chaney

I absolutely love this toy! There is a button to switch from english, Spanish, and French. It allows my child to press on the octopus' legs to hear each color. My daughter is well on her way to learning her colors in different languages. It plays three different songs and my daughter just loves them. This is one of the best purchases I have ever made, and it came very quickly in the mail!

5Baby Einstein Octoplush ( Loved it at first .. ) by Tonya M. Fierro "Ame

I bought this for my daughter when she was around 5 months old .. We both LOVED it at first , I love how it speaks in Spanish, English and French :) We were playing with it the other day and I noticed that not all of the colors work , there was only 2 colors that were working .. not sure why and what caused this. I think Im deff going to try and send it back for an exchange . other wise all in all this is a awesome toy !! :)

5Love it and it works great by JettLag

Perfect for when we are in the car. The octopus will say all different things so it's not the same annoying tune over and over. Great baby gift. My son is 5 months and LOVES it!

5okay by mom

Nice stuffed animal, but kind of bland. The underside of the arms have a silky texture. My daughter likes it.

5My little guy LOVES this by carolinagirl

My son LOVES this octopus. Any time he hears the music, he just gets so excited. I wasn't sure if this would hold his attention, but he just loves it. A great toy!

5fun and cute by aileen jacobsen

My son loves the talking it does. (colors and music) is easy for him to grab at the tentical. (he is 4 months old)

5Never ending source of fun and learning by Nancy Sinclair

I bought this for my nephew's one year birthday and he hasn't let go of it since he saw it. I love the look of amazement and happiness he gets when I squeeze one of the legs and it says the name of the color. He has a "What just happened? Do it again!" look on his sweet little face that's priceless.

I can't believe how quickly he learned that if he squeezed the head, it would play a song and how much fun it gives him to hear the song and know that he made it play

The only downside of this product is that I get tired of it a lot more quickly than my nephew.

5Colors stopped working after a few months by Megan L. Gray "Merme

I enjoyed this toy with my son for about 6 months- then the colors just stopped working in every language. I thought it was the batteries- but after replacing- they still did not work. A little disappointing for what you pay for these things. I love my other baby einstein products.

5Best toy Ever! by S. Wilson RN

I bought this for a co-worker who told me her son "just lit up" when he saw it! I bought three more for my other friends who just had baby boys. Great toy!

5Octoplush by B. Breland "Old Hipp

I got this for my 9 month grandson......I haven't been around him to see his reaction with it...but his mom seemed very pleased and said he would love it....really cute toy.

5My son's favorite! by Amy

My son received this as a Christmas gift when he was one year old. He adores it. It's a can't-miss entertainer, and I hear that it's his favorite comforting toy when he is with a caregiver other than his parents. He has a well-loved Baby Einstein Octopus Hanging Toy, Blue, but he hasn't been able to enjoy the pull-string octopus as much since we moved him out of the infant carrier carseat with the handle for hanging toys. The octoplush is perfect for him right now. He carries it around, holds it in his carseat, and generally beats up on this friendly toy. It's very easy for my son to get the music going, and he loves to touch the silky, multi-colored fabric under each "tentacle." And for whatever reason, he just gets a big kick out of this octopus's face -- it cracks him up when he sees it, and he likes to touch the octopus's eyes and mouth.

He is able to touch the buttons on the tentacles to hear colors read aloud, but I think it's more a fluke than something he can do deliberately. Maybe that's something he will grow into, though.

All in all, this toy is a winner. We rarely leave home without it.

5Great product by Mandy

I love this product. my son is 7 months old n he absolutely loves this octopus. It sings to him n each leg says n shows a different color. I was looking for developmental toys for him n this is deffinately what i was looking for, It's definitely a great toy. Very happy with everything.
