Entertain Even the Most Active Child by C. Mitchell "Working
I am a working mom with a very active 2.5 year old and a husband who travels >50% time. This means even though I consider myself creative, I appreciate the ability to whip out a pre-packaged craft project that engages my little one without a) pre-planning/looking up ideas online; b) taking her to buy supplies (in small quantities) for similar projects; c) any consideration of weather or time of the day. Sure, there will be parents out there who take a look at the content and think it's nothing special. Well, I have two comments: 1) many of us wouldn't consider most activities for a 2-3 year old special but they are nevertheless fun and age-appropriate. 2) When my brain is fried from work but I'd rather not park my kid in front of the TV so that I can decompress, this is a fun way to spend time with my little one.
Price wise, I consider Amazon's price reasonable. I probably would have to spend more if I gather the supplies myself and would have the hassle of dealing with all the leftovers.
Personal reasons and pricing aside, I am actually quite impressed with the quality of the stuff inside. The quantity for each project is either good or on the generous side. Everything is bright/colorful and printed on quality paper. The projects create surprisingly little or no mess. All age appropriate -- some clearly require a longer attention span than my kid has or greater dexterity. That's ok; I help her with some stuff or let her finish the project in a couple of sittings. I can also try to challenge her, making up related stories/asking her decoration preferences while we do these projects and encourage her to keep at it a little longer to expand her attention span. These projects would work best for 2.5-4 year olds. I like the individual packaging for most of the projects. That way, I can efficiently take one out at a time w/o letting my kid sees the rest and get distracted.
There are only two things that I would change: the box came with just one instruction sheet that shows how some of the projects are put together. For those of us who like reading instruction manuals, the only way to get an idea of what the final product look like are the images on the big box. Like I said, my kid gets distracted and wants whatever she sees, so I would have preferred not to have the box in front of her (albeit with all the content removed) while we do a project. Second, I noticed that I did not get one of the projects pictured on the box but something else of the same type of activity. That's kind of a disappointment because I really like the fish tissue art instead of a star tissue art; plus, I believe in you-buy-what-you-see. I don't know how frequently Alex products make substitutions like this.
This was a worthwhile investment. I love seeing my kid getting so excited during and after finishing a project. So proud and eager to hang up her latest masterwork!
My 5 year old daughter just got this craft box for her birthday, what a great gift! She sat down and did the craft projects on her own for hours. You can look at the box for ideas on how things should look OR just do what you want and be creative. All the projects are wrapped separately so you can hand out one at a time if you want. She was so proud when she was done to show us what she made. This is an excellent gift for kids who like to do/create things rather than just playing with toys. We will be buying more of these items for Christmas gifts. Very little mess to boot.

this art supply/project box was part of an arts present for my 3 children, and they all absolutely loved this project box. their was something for each of them to do on their own, and together. there are so many fun things to do with all the supplies, and my kids even get along and work together on making fun things. ages 7,4,and 3.

I bought this for my daughter for her 6th birthday. she loves to do arts and crafts and I thought this would give her some new things to do. She loves it! The projects are all easy enough that she can do them on her own. Very colorful and creative. Love this box of crafty stuff!

I love this little busy box! My daughter (2 1/2)and I will have hours of fun. This was actually the first thing that has kept her attention for over 1 hour. I'll let her play with the items in the box while I cook and she is totally engrossed in what she is doing. She makes the funniest things from this box. But, I love that it helps with her creativity and imagination. This has become a favorite birthday present for me to give to her little friends.

we got this as a gift for a 3 year old girl. her mother indicated that she completed the entire set the weekend after her birthday in which it rained the whole weekend and couldn't go outside. she loved it.
so, i suppose i'd recommend it for a birthday gift! when my kids get old enough, i'll probably buy them one!

The main good part of this toy is that most projects are individually wrapped. So, if you have more than one kids, they are not fighting for the same thing! The not so good part is that there is only one glue stik which is humungous!
Could have better items....too pricey for the amount of stuff in it...which could have been bought for a fraction of the cost of this box!

For those of us that love to do craft projects but don't have the creatiivity or patience come up with our own, then this is perfect! It's great for a rainy day, travel, scorching summer days or that time before bedtime where you want a quiet activity. I definitely suggest that for everyone.

My crafty 4 year old absolutely loves this present from Santa. I was worried by its longevity, due to the fact it say '16' crafts included, but considering some of these crafts consist of 4 sections that can be seperated to different days I can see this toy being creative fun for some time to come. Really happy with this purchase and looking forward to helping my princess create beautiful crafts.
I was under the impression it would have more things to do, but it has several of the same crafts. other than that its good we are just having to find other stuff to do with the materials since making the same thing 2 or 3 times isnt very fun for my 2 yr old

My kids have had other craft kits that were total junk. This one was pretty good. The girls are addicted to doing these little projects. My kids are 3 & 5 and have been enjoying all of the activities.

I bought this for them for Christmas. I know I might sound like a terrible mom but I love the fact that I didn't have to walk them through the instructions. They (8 and 6) opened the box and were able to do the projects on their own.

I purchased this for my 4 year old daughter for Christmas last year. She had other gifts that she was more interested in at the time, so I put this in the closet for a "rainy day". It was great to have on hand for those cold winter days when she complained for boredom. I like that most of the crafts are pre-packaged and include everything you need to complete them. She could do them with little assistance which was also a plus for me. I will be getting some of the other Alex crafts sets for her again this year!

I bought this through Amazon for my grand daughters. Their mom homeschools them and uses it for arts and crafts time with them. They just love it! Comes in very handy. Lots of fun-looking arts and craft items in this box, but how to know how to assemble them? My 4 year old was frustrated and in the end, so was I.

First: there are only instructions for 4 of the projects. The rest, you're on your own unless you can find a picture of the project over the Internet (and you know how patient children are waiting to do a project).
Second: They're almost all the same! 5 paper-bag puppets, 4 play-doh animals, 2 scrunching tissue paper crafts, and 2 sticker crafts that get framed (one is of a pizza...why would anyone want to frame this?)
We have about 3 more crafts left, and then I can get rid of this huge waste of time.
Bought this for a gift for a 3 year old, mother has told me many times how much fun this box is. Did several projects when they first got it and now pull it out for a cold or rainy day. I will be purchasing one for my son when he turns 3.
Best craft ever for wide age range by C. Anderson
I have lots of craft materials at my house, but bought this on line from Amazon as I like the idea that it was all inclusive and had a big variety of things to make and items from which to make them. While age range says 3-5 on suggestions, my 4 year old granddaughter had fun with an older niece making tissue butterfly, and a couple of other things, while a recent visit by 9 and 11 year old nieces showed them having a blast making the paper bag puppets, which are so fun and colorful they could hardly wait to get home and find a place in their rooms for them. They were also excited to have them to do puppet shows for younger visitors. This is a great product, and I will buy more Alex crafting kits again.
We received this toy as a gift for my 2 1/2 year old-he LOVES this toy. I like that it has all the art supplies included so you have everything you need for each project. It held my little guy's attention and he loved showing off his artwork around the house. I liked it so much that I bought one as a gift for my 3 year old niece and she loved it as well. Great product

I bought this kit for my 5 year old neice who was visiting while her Mom helped me with my first child. So i was looking for toys to keep her independantly busy. She LOVED this kit. she hardly touched anything else that i bought her. She spent hours a day doing 1 or 2 project and still had half the box left by the end of the week. Also note worthy- the box is packaged by projects, so it wasnt like i gave her the whole box at a time. You just give her the envelope for the lion paper bag puppet and everything she needs is in there. this eliminated a lot of mess since the box has so much in it.
the box comes with everything you need except scissors, but really none of the projects need them, but my neice wanted to cut some stuff up. but it has a good quality glue stick and crayons to go with the projects that need them. At times she wanted to see what things were supposed to look like in the end but they do not include any instructions for the projects but i think that was good for her to let her be creative and make the projects take a little longer.
In 5 years this was the best toy for the money i have ever bought her.
This was a Christmas present I purchased for my little 3 yr-old granddaughter. She is a very active, busy child and needs to be kept busy. My daughter-in-law said she is pleased with the quality of this toy. She wasn't expecting the projects to be as sturdy. She also said there were 'plenty' of things in it to keep the little one busy and the projects were geared toward her age and kept her interest.
Through hearing my daughter-in-law's opinion on this toy, I would recommend this to parents for their children.

This box contained more art projects than I could pull off a shelf in a toy store. We kept digging deeper and deeper and found more and more. Extremely well made pieces for the crafts...;excellent colors and full of imagination. More than worth the price.
A Fun Alternative to TV! by Kate "mother, wife,
My 3 year old daughter got this as a Christmas gift and it was the perfect alternative to TV during the long winter months (I HATE when she watches TV! There are so many other fun things to do!). My daughter's first activities were the tissue paper art -- a fish and a car -- and she LOVED them. From then on she demanded to do more projects. She thoroughly enjoyed all the paper bag puppets and even liked playing with the clay and inserting the arms, legs and heads of animals (though I personally thought this was the most boring part of the box). My mother-in-law also did a few projects with my daughter. FYI -- my mother-in-law isn't super creative and struggled with the lack of instructions, but my daughter still had a blast.
The projects come individually wrapped for the most part, although some pieces are free-floating and not labeled. The instructions are not as clear as I would like them, and typically I found myself looking for the project on the box and then figuring it out from there. None of this phased my daughter. She was grabbing things left and right and using her own creativity to design her projects (which may be the point of not having detailed instructions!).
I also agree with a previous reviewer about what I'd change: The box comes with one instruction sheet that shows some of the projects, and not all of the projects are the exact ones that are pictured on the box.
All in all I will probably be buying another kit from Alex because it was such a hit with my daughter.

I purchased this toy for my 3 year old while going on vacation to visit my family. I have two nieces (2 and 5) who were able to enjoy "craft time" with my daughter. I couldn't believe how everything was provided, down to the crayons.
I will be purchasing this again for my daughter now that we are back home, to do all by herself. She really enjoyed this.
Pros:
1. all of the kids were able to enjoy this, from 2 to 5 (almost 6)
2. it kept their attention for at least an hour!
3. there are MORE than enough crafts to last weeks.
4. the crafts are all pre-cut and pre-made for the "not-so-crafty" parent
5. you literally do not need anything additionally, everything comes with it!

Cons:
No real con at all, only thing is, I wanted to do the crafts, they were so much fun. I would hear my daughter say "My turn mommy?" and feel so guily!"

my 2 year old loved this craft box. perfect for those times when you feel like you should be doing something fun with your little one. where i live, it costs me this amount to take her to a one hour art class so it was worth it to me to pay $20 and have some convenient ready things to do at home. what 2 year old doesn't like to glue, punch out, use stickers etc....
the box it comes in is really pretty too. i'll be buying more variations of this.

Yes, I was frustrated this did not include instructions, but I did not let my five year old catch on and made up my own for some of the activites! It can be modern art! She was excited about all the things to do and hey, it has enough stuff to ensure hours of fun. Excellent bright colors to continue to pique her interests, "hey mom look at the purple duck I made!" For this price, (saw it for 34.99$ at local learning toy shop) you can't beat it and would recommend it.

My daughter got this along with two other of the Alex of crafts. She loves them! She has so much fun with all of it! It makes a mess but it's worth having all the stuff she makes and brings to me.
